Halloween, the scariest night of the year, is approaching.
It’s time to arrange an intimate party with your friends and choose three horror films to watch together. Here are our picks!
For many, especially young kids, Halloween is the perfect occasion to nock on the neighbours’ doors with the notorious question: “Trick or Treat?”, hoping to collect as many sweets as they can.
For the grown-ups, on the other end, it might be a funny night to arrange an intimate party watching scary movies on TV.
Set-up your dining room with candles, possibly orange ones, serve cocoa pocorns or crunchy pumpkin snacks, take out of your closet a couple of fluffy quilts and choose one of the three films we have selected for you… or all three of them, if you’re brave enough!
#1: The Innocents
Director: Jack Clayton
Cast: Deborah Kerr, Michael Redgrave, Megs Jenkins
Let’s kick off with a real classic in black & white.
This ghost story is a faithful adaptaion of Henry James‘ masterpiece “The Turn of the Screw“.
The plot centres on a young governess who is sent to a large country estate to care for two children, but soon she starts to see apparitions around the grounds, apparently the previous governess and the former valet, and the children’s behaviour grows increasingly strange…

Deborah Kerr is magnificent, the atmosphere is disturbing and the ending will leave you with more than a question… Check the trailer below!

#2 – Ghost Stories
Directors: Andy Nyman e Jeremy Dyson
Cast: Martin Freeman, Alex Lawther e Andy Nyman
The second movie we’ve chosen for an unforgettable Halloween night is a recent one, but an instant classic!
Adapted by the theatre play of the same name directed by Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson, the same directors of the movie, Ghost Stories tells the story of Phillip Goodman, a man devoted to debunking fraudulent psychics, approached by an old professor who demands the investigation of three cases that remain unexplained…

Behind an apparently creepy and illogical story lies a hidden gem that you’ll be willing to watch a second time, with different eyes. Check the trailer below!

#3 – Halloween
Director: John Carpenter
Cast: Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasance, Nancy Kyes
Ladies & gentlemen, a special announcement from your captain!
With the first two flicks we have chosen two less-known and niche stories.
As for the third one… a Halloween night wouldn’t be complete without the “classic of classics”: John Carpenter’s Halloween!
In this amazing 1978 blockbuster, a criminal convicted for his sister’s murder escapes from the mental institution where, for 15 years, he hasn’t spoken a single word and returns his hometown, to complete the massacre he had only begun…

An unforgettable soundtrack, a constant shiver on the spine throughout the 90 minutes of the film, one of the coolest and most memorable scream queens of the big screen, Jamie Lee Curtis.
A timeless classic, renewed by a reboot that is now in theatres with its second installment, Halloween is one of the most enduring and profitable movie franchising of all times, with Michael Myers being one of the greatest villains of the move screen. Watch the trailer below!
